Serving Maryland's independent restaurants

Payroll that works for your restaurant

Blue Crab Guild serves Maryland's independent restaurants — starting with the §45B FICA tip credit worth an estimated $8,000–$14,000 a year that most restaurants never claim. We turn your POS tips into a draft Form 8846 credit pack. You keep your tax professional.

The Problem

Your payroll data is hiding money you're leaving on the table

Your payroll provider won't file Form 8846

Gusto, ADP, Toast, Square — none of them prepare the §45B FICA Tip Credit. The credit dies somewhere between payroll and your CPA.

Maryland's county wage rules are a patchwork

Montgomery, Howard, Prince George's, and statewide tiers each move on their own schedule — every January and July. A national payroll can't keep up.

2026 W-2s require new tip reporting

TTOC codes and Box 12-TP qualified tips are mandatory for the first time in January 2027. Most payroll systems treat it as an edge case.

What We Handle

The credit first. Everything else follows.

At launch we do one thing — the §45B FICA tip credit — and we do it end to end. Payroll, sales-tax filing, and GL arrive with the full platform.

FAQ

Frequently asked questions

The FICA Tip Credit (§45B) refunds the employer share of Social Security and Medicare taxes paid on certain employee tips. It's claimed on Form 8846 with your business income-tax return.

Generally the credit is nonrefundable, so it can't exceed your income-tax liability. Your tax situation and a qualified professional determine how it applies.

The tip data, employee hours, and payroll records live in separate systems, and the IRS forms look intimidating. Blue Crab reconciles them into a clean credit pack.

No. Tips used to meet the minimum wage aren't creditable, and mandatory service charges are treated differently from discretionary tips. We model conservatively.

Generally yes. Unclaimed §45B credit from up to three prior open tax years may still be recoverable by amending the return. We prepare the credit data and documentation for each year; your authorized tax professional reviews and files the amendment.

No. Blue Crab Guild prepares the credit data and documentation package; your authorized tax professional reviews and files it.

There's no subscription at launch. Your first $200 of §45B savings each year is free — the rest is negotiated before you sign anything.
